Triathlon Awards: SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg named Germany's best standard distance race

The SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg presented by HAMBURG WASSER has impressively underscored its special position in German triathlon and won one of the coveted triathlon awards. At the “sailfish Night of the Year” on November 29, 2025, in Langen near Frankfurt, the event was named the best standard distance race of the year.

Victory in the public vote
In the online vote of around 10,000 readers of triathlon magazine, Hamburg narrowly beat the Allgäu Triathlon (22.7%) and the Frankfurt City Triathlon (18.1%) with 23.7% of the votes.

DTU President Prof. Dr. Martin Engelhardt and DTU Event Director Oliver Schiek accepted the award on behalf of the entire organizing team.

“This award is a confirmation in several respects,” explained Prof. Dr. Engelhardt. “On the one hand, it shows that it was the right move for the association to take over the event on its own and thus revive participation in the Open Races. On the other hand, the award represents appreciation for the work of the entire organizing team, which puts its heart and soul into giving all participants a great triathlon experience.”

Schiek, who has been responsible for the race since its inception in 2002, added: "This award means a great deal to us. It shows how much the athletes—the heart of the event—as well as the fans and the people of Hamburg embrace the spirit of this event. The atmosphere in the city, the enthusiasm along the course – that's what makes the SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg presented by HAMBURG WASSER something special every year. For me personally, this underlines how right it was to follow the race to the DTU!"

A standard distance classic with cult status
With its mix of popular sports, world-class competitions in the World Triathlon Championship Series, and the emotional Mixed Relay World Championships, Hamburg has been one of Europe's most popular events for years.

The next edition will take place on July 11 and 12, 2026 – once again with a top international field and tens of thousands of fans transforming the Hanseatic city into a triathlon stadium.
