Premiere: Hamburg hosts a WTPS race for the first time
17 October, 2025

The World Triathlon Federation has awarded Hamburg its first World Triathlon Para Series (WTPS) event, in addition to the WTCS Sprint event and the Mixed Relay World Championships, which will return to Hamburg in 2026.
As part of the SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg presented by HAMBURG WASSER 2026, the focus will not only be on important World Championship Series points in the individual races, as in the previous three years, but also on gold, silver, and bronze in the thrilling relay competition and, for the first time, Para World Championship Series points.
With the addition of the WTPS race, 2026 will be the perfect dress rehearsal for the 2027 Triathlon World Championships in the City of Hamburg.
Since 2002, “the world's biggest tri” has been an integral part of Hamburg's summer sports calendar, and since 2009, it has also been an indispensable part of the World Triathlon Championship Series calendar. While a triathlon world championship was held in the heart of Hamburg for the first time in 2007, the Mixed Relay World Championships were a regular part of the event program from 2013 to 2019. Since 2023, the spectacular World Championship race has been back in the Elbe metropolis every year. Now, the premiere of a WTPS race, which will be the only one in Europe in 2026, joins the impressive history of triathlon in Hamburg.
In 2026, amateur athletes will once again have the opportunity to compete on the same courses as their idols.
The Open Race over the sprint distance (500 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling, and 5 kilometers running) is scheduled for July 11, and the Open Race over the short distance (1.5 km, 40 km, 10 km) for July 12, 2026.
Registration has been available online since mid-September.
