The World's Biggest Tri for the 22nd time in the heart of Hamburg
12 July, 2024
This weekend, the Hanseatic city of Hamburg will host the SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg powered by Hamburg Wasser for the 22nd time as the arena for the world's biggest triathlon.
Over 7,000 triathletes and up to 300,000 spectators are expected along the swim, run and bike course for "The World's Biggest Tri". With the Inner and Outer Alster lakes, the Speicherstadt warehouse district and Hamburg harbour as well as the Rathausmarkt, the Hanseatic city once again offers a uniquely impressive and attractive backdrop like no other.
In addition to the tried-and-tested finish in the arena on the Rathausmarkt, the individual competitions will once again start at the usual location, the Alster jetty. The event is also characterised by the variety of competition formats. The Open Races over the sprint distance (0.5km swim - 20km bike - 5km run) will kick off on Saturday from 7.15am. Over 3,500 individual and relay participants are registered for this event.
The starting signal for the first elite individual race will sound at 13:50. 56 of the world's best triathlon professionals will be competing for victory and podium places in this prestigious race, as well as valuable World Championship points in the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series. The same applies to the 58 elite female triathletes, whose race will follow at 3.55 pm. This competition also offers quite a few of the elite triathletes the opportunity to test their Paris form under competition conditions.
Further open races are scheduled for Sunday, now as individual and relay competitions over the short distance (1.5km - 40km - 10km). Once again, up to 3,500 triathletes and tens of thousands of enthusiastic spectators will create magnificent images in the city and beyond from 7.00 am.
The sporting highlight of the day, including a witches' cauldron atmosphere in the finish arena in front of the town hall, will be the Mixed Team Relay World Championships from 3.00 pm. In this exciting format, the participating nations will compete against each other in mixed teams of four. Two women and two men (m/f/m/w) from each nation will start alternately and complete a super sprint triathlon (300 m swimming / 7 km cycling / 1.75 km running). The German team is the defending champion.
