Hamburg celebrates Duffy and Mola

Flora Duffy celebrates win in the ITU World Triathlon Series - Mario Mola is dealing well with his role as favorite - Nearly 5,000 Age Group athletes and more than 140,000 spectators provide a festive atmosphere at the largest triathlon in the world in the city center of Hamburg.
 
The victory came not unexpectedly for her.  Collecting her first-ever sprint distance win, Flora Duffy executed a breakaway performance that brought her into the finish line without a challenger in sight to earn her fifth WTS victory in her career. The German athlete Laura Lindemann came in at third and made it into the Top Three.

The following elite men race had all the ingredients belonging to an unforgettable race in Hamburg: fast pace, exciting changes within the swim and bike course, and full spectator stands. However, Mario Mola dealed well with his role as favorite: Becoming the first man to ever repeat a win at the venue, the Spaniard captured his fifth career sprint distance victory at the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Hamburg.

Surviving and conquering a mass pack that lasted throughout the race, Mola earned his win on the run, where he eased on by his competition on the five-kilometre course. The win not only put Mola in a tied position for most sprint distance victories in a career (with Jonathan Brownlee), but also pushed him to the position of most WTS sprint distance podiums in ITU history with eight.

For the successful start of the event weekend since early morning almost 5,000 Age Groupers attended for the sprint distance (500m swim - 22km cycling - 5km running). Mmore than 140,000 spectators watched the competitions at the Alster Lake, along the Elbe and atthe Rathausmarkt.
The events second day starts at 6:30 am with the Age Group competitions on the Olympic Distance (1500m swim - 40km cycling - 10km running). The sporting highlight of the day is the Mixed Relay WC at 02:54 pm.
