City Kids Triathlon delights pupils
17 June, 2013
Last Thursday and Friday, over 3,000 students demonstrated once again their passion for triathlon. The Hamburg City Kids Triathlon 2013 in the bathe of the Stadtparksee caused enthusiasm among participants, teachers and helping parents from over 100 schools. After more than 1,000 third and fourth graders started on Thursday in sticky hot, but mostly dry outer conditions, the grades five to twelve followed on Friday.
The primary school pupils had to swim 50 meters, to cycle 2km and to run 500m. The sports program for the participants of the secondary schools was a 100m swimming, 4km cycling and a 1km running (5th-9th grade) or a 200m swimming, 8km cycling and a 2km running (school year 10-12). The school Islandstraße was the winner of the primary schools evaluation. Concerning the secondary schools, grammar school Blankenese did not only defend the title “Most successful school” from the previous year, but also qualified again for the finale of “Jugend trainiert für Olympia”.
“The Hamburg pupil triathlon showed once again how fun and success can be combined in school sports just when the network of school board, teachers, committed parents, partner as well as organizer pulls together”, said Hamburg City Kids project manager Frederik Tychsen.
