Event

Since 2002, the World Triathlon Hamburg has been an integral part of Hamburg's sporting summer. Every year, around 10,000 participants and more than 250,000 spectators come together on the two days of competition, making the World Triathlon Hamburg the World's Biggest Tri.

The event takes place in the heart of Hamburg. The start is in a prestigious location on Hamburg's Jungfernstieg and provides a great atmosphere before the participants complete the swim in the Alster. From the transition area at Ballindamm, athletes cycle towards the Elbe River and along some of the city's best sights such as Speicherstadt, Landungsbrücken, Reeperbahn, Fischmarkt and Elbphilharmonie. The final run course leads along the western bank of the Alster, past magnificent buildings and with great views over the Outer Alster, and ends with an unforgettable finish in front of the magnificent Hamburg City Hall.

Already at its first edition, the World Triathlon Hamburg was part of the ITU World Cup and since 2009 it has been part of the World Triathlon Championship Series, bringing the world's best triathletes to the Hanseatic city. In 2007, Hamburg hosted the first Triathlon World Championships in Germany and from 2013 to 2019, the Mixed Relay World Championships were held annually as part of the World Triathlon Championship Series.

In 2023, the Triathlon Sprint & Relay Championships were held in the triathlon living room of Germany. For the first time, not only gold, silver or bronze medals were awarded in the Mixed Relay, but also the international championship honours over the Super Sprint distance; the latter in the thrilling new Eliminator format. In addition, the juniors, the under-23s as well as the age group athletes competed for world championship titles.

In 2024, the traditional programme is ready again: World Triathlon Championship Series in the individual plus Mixed Relay World Championships and two Open Races, one each over sprint and standard distance.
