Hamburg celebrates “The World's Biggest Tri” with over 8,000 open race participants

Yesterday's competition Saturday once again got the SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg presented by HAMBURG WASSER off to a strong start: Despite mixed weather, almost 4,000 amateur athletes took part in individual and relay competitions over the sprint distance: 0.5 km swimming, 20 km cycling, and 5 km running.

Today's second day of the event marked another milestone in Hamburg's 20-year triathlon history. More than 4,000 amateur triathletes took to the start line early in the morning in mild temperatures of 20°C to complete the short distance – 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, 10 km running – and, despite the changeable weather, inspired spectators with their attractive amateur sporting performances in the heart of Hamburg.

Hendrik Saathhoffe from Höchst crossed the finish line in 1:59:28 hours as the fastest man of the day, making him the only athlete to break the two-hour mark. The fastest woman, Claudia Slapka from Hamburg, stopped the clock at 2:10:41 hours on the Rathausmarkt.

The company cup competition, presented by Suzuki, was once again very popular. Over 100 individual runners and a good 300 relay runners registered for the additional competition for companies. The winner in the competition, which was based on the three best individual results from each team, was Team Immanuel Albertinen Diakonie 1 from Hamburg. In the company relay competition, STILL Team 2, also from Hamburg, secured first place.

A total of over 8,000 athletes and amateur sportsmen and women took part in the SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg 2025 presented by HAMBURG WASSER. The event was once again the largest triathlon in the world, thanks in part to the Suzuki Kids Triathlon, which saw 3,350 schoolchildren take to the start line a few weeks ago.

The success and enthusiasm generated by the open competitions was rounded off by the German professional triathlon team, consisting of Lisa Tertsch, Lasse Nygaard Priester, Tanja Neubert, and Henry Graf, who finished third in the Mixed Relay World Championships.

In addition, around 250,000 spectators ensured a great atmosphere on and off the course over two days. Once again, “the world's biggest tri” was a sporting highlight for the city.
